Muhurat Trading Highlights: Indian equity benchmarks opened in the green for the 70-minute special muhurat trading session on Diwali. At the open (at 2:20 pm), Sensex gained 250 points while Nifty was up 40 points.
However, at the close (3:30 pm), both indices fell in the red. While Sensex was down 28 points, Nifty fell 43 points. With this, the 9-year winning streak came to an end. Since 2018, both Sensex and Nifty had closed in the green on Diwali.
This year, during the Diwali Muhurat Trading session, the market remained open from 2:20 pm to 3:30 pm. The multi commodity exchange (MCX) followed the same window. The special session has become a long-standing tradition, as it is believed that buying stocks at the beginning of a new Hindu calendar year brings prosperity and positive momentum throughout the year.
Indian stock markets welcomed Samvat 2083 on a bullish note after posting their strongest weekly gains in almost six years. The Nifty climbed more than 8 per cent over the past week, while the Sensex and Nifty extended their rally to seven straight sessions, boosting optimism ahead of the new Samvat year.

Indian equity markets witnessed a largely range-bound session during Muhurat Trading, marking the beginning of Samvat 2083 on a mixed note. The Nifty 50 closed marginally lower by 0.03% at 25,023.70, while the Sensex ended in mild positive territory, gaining 0.10% to settle at 81,109.86. Despite the mixed closing, the Nifty managed to hold above the psychologically important 25,000 mark, indicating some resilience after the recent rally.
Overall, the session reflected cautious optimism rather than aggressive buying, with investors maintaining a selective approach. As the new Samvat year begins, market direction will depend on corporate earnings, domestic growth, foreign fund flows, global developments and crude oil movements. Investors should remain focused on fundamentally strong businesses and disciplined investment strategies. The Muhurat session may have ended on a mixed note, but it marks a fresh beginning for investors as they look ahead to opportunities in Samvat 2083.

The market structure remains robust with Nifty decisively breaking above its previous swing high of 24,800 to close on a strong note.
This zone now shifts to an important immediate support level. The broader momentum continues to be anchored by banking heavyweights, with Bank Nifty similarly clearing its crucial resistance at 58,700.
While the overall bias remains firmly bullish, offering favorable buying opportunities on pullbacks, investors must exercise discipline, parabolic moves often trigger equally sharp retracements.
Rather than chasing stretched prices, focus on managing risk while targeting market leaders in capital markets, IT, pharmaceuticals and banks

Muhurat Trading LIVE: 'Exit What No Longer Fits Your Goals'
Ajay Lakhotia Founder & CEO, StockGro
Muhurat trading is one of the most beautiful traditions in Indian markets. Just think about how we get ready for Diwali. We clean the house to welcome Goddess Lakshmi. Then we invest in something small but meaningful on Dhanteras. We light a diya for a bright year ahead.
Similarly, muhurat trading is one such Indian tradition for all smart investors to consider. In the days before the session, clean your portfolio. Exit what no longer fits your goals and rebalance what has drifted. Then, during muhurat trading, buy something already on your long-term watchlist for shagun. And finally, use the auspicious mood of the festival to setbuild correct financial routines for Samvat 2083: it could be a monthly investment amount or a rule for what you will do when markets fall!
This way, if you carry that spirit into the next 364 days, the Muhurat will have done its job.
