- Kia Seltos leads in adult occupant protection with highest Bharat NCAP scores
- Tata Sierra offers near-perfect protection and excels in child safety dynamic tests
- Renault Duster matches Seltos in child occupant protection but ranks third in adult safety
The mid-size SUV segment is now fiercely competitive not just in features and performance, but also in safety. The Renault Duster, Tata Sierra, and Kia Seltos have all secured 5-star ratings under Bharat NCAP. However, a deeper dive into their crash test scores reveals clear distinctions in occupant protection and safety tech.
Renault Duster Vs Tata Sierra Vs Kia Seltos: Adult Occupant Protection
The Kia Seltos emerges as the top performer in adult occupant protection. While all three SUVs have achieved 5-star ratings, the Seltos scores the highest overall in AOP among the trio. It outperforms the Renault Duster in the frontal offset deformable barrier test by 1.21 points, thanks to 'good' ratings for the driver's chest and right tibia-areas where the Duster is rated 'adequate'.
The Seltos also holds the distinction of achieving one of the highest frontal offset scores among ICE vehicles tested by Bharat NCAP, reinforcing its strong crash structure and restraint systems.

The Tata Sierra follows closely with a 31.14/32 score, delivering near-perfect protection. It offers 'good' protection for most critical regions such as the head, neck, pelvis, and thighs, though the chest and tibia areas are rated 'adequate' in certain scenarios.
The Renault Duster, while still a strong performer, ranks third here. It provides 'good' protection in key areas but falls slightly behind due to relatively lower ratings for chest and tibia protection.
In side impact tests, all three SUVs perform similarly well. They score full marks in the side movable barrier test and receive an 'OK' rating in the more severe side pole impact test.
