KTM has announced a global recall for select models in its 390 line-up to address a potential engine stalling issue, covering several 2024 to 2026 motorcycles sold in international markets. The Indian market is not part of this particular campaign, despite the affected bikes being manufactured here.

The recall applies to the 2024-2026 KTM 390 Duke and the 2025-2026 KTM 390 Enduro R, 390 SMC R, 390 Adventure R, and 390 Adventure X, all powered by the latest 399 cc single-cylinder platform. Husqvarna 401 models using the same engine are also covered under the broader update programme in overseas markets.

KTM says extensive internal testing revealed that, in rare cases, the engine could stall at low RPM or during deceleration, particularly in city riding or slow, technical off-road conditions. Such a stall can increase the risk of a tip-over, for example, during U-turns or tight manoeuvres. The company notes that only a limited number of incidents have been observed, but is acting proactively to minimise any potential safety risk.

The solution is a software update for the Engine Control Unit (ECU), with no mechanical parts requiring replacement. The updated ECU map is claimed to significantly reduce the risk of engine stalling at low speeds while also improving low-end response and overall engine smoothness. The update will be carried out free of cost at authorised KTM service centres, and owners of affected motorcycles will be contacted directly by the brand or can check eligibility with their nearest dealer.

Although the affected models are produced in India, Bajaj and KTM have clarified that this specific recall campaign does not extend to units sold in the Indian market. Riders abroad are being advised to schedule the ECU flash at their earliest convenience to ensure their motorcycles benefit from the revised software.
