Mahindra & Mahindra has a lot going on; the brand has multiple products on the test bed. The list includes updated versions of existing models, such as the Thar, Bolero, and XUV700. The automaker is also working on an electric version of the XUV3XO. Meanwhile, BE6 Rall-E is also in the oven getting ready for the market. Before all of this, the automaker has made a few changes to the existing Thar. It is to be noted that most of these changes seem to be associated with cost-cutting.
Starting with the details, the Mahindra Thar LX trim has been caught on camera with a steel spare wheel instead of alloy wheels. This is a big change because the LX trim of the SUV has always been sold with five alloy wheels since its first launch in the country. This was the case even with the 1.5-litre diesel version as well. This hints at a strategy aimed at saving input costs for the SUV, which is meant to get an updated version in the near future.

Along with this, the brand has changed the wheel cover, which has a design very similar to the one offered on the Thar Roxx. Adding to this, the brand has replaced the MRF or CEAT tyres used on the SUV with the ones sourced from JK Tyres. The reason for this change is not clear. But there's a possibility that this can be because of issues with the supply chain.

Apart from these modifications, the Mahindra Thar remains as popular in sales as it has always been. It is still equipped with the same set of engines: a 1.5-litre turbo diesel, a 2.0-litre turbo petrol, and a 2.2-litre turbo diesel. Depending on the engine choice, the Thar is available with either a manual or automatic transmission, as well as RWD or 4WD configurations. With all of this, the Mahindra Thar continues to have a starting price of Rs 11.50 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 17.62 lakh (ex-showroom).
