Wife kills husband over deathbed affair confession

London: A woman in Britain killed her 75-year-old husband after he told her about his affair with her best friend wrongly believing he was on his deathbed, a media report said on Tuesday.

Frail Tony Wakeford confessed to Patricia, his wife of 50 years, while in hospital with Parkinson's disease, The Sun reported. However, Wakeford recovered and Patricia, 67, fumed over the confession for five years as she cared for the increasingly-sickly Tony.

She allegedly finally snapped after they rowed over the affair, which had taken place years earlier, and repeatedly stabbed him with a kitchen knife.

Patricia wept in the dock Monday as the court heard she dialled 999 and claimed Tony was knifed in a scuffle after attacking her. She said she had grabbed the knife to keep him at bay and it was pushed into his chest when they fell over.

Patricia, who denies the murder, said she went to bed and later found Tony dead on the floor at home in Effingham, Surrey.

But prosecutor Alexia Durran said forensic evidence showed Patricia had carefully cleaned up pools of blood on the kitchen floor before police arrived.

Durran told Guildford Crown Court Tony's confession devastated Patricia.
