UEFA Champions League: Lewandowski, Dortmund give Real a hiding

The first leg of the second Champions League semi-final bore almost the same result as the first semi where Barca were beaten 4-0 at Bayern. "We have taken only the first step, but of course we are happy," said Lewandowski, who became the first player to score four goals in a Champions League semi-final.

Dortmund fans had reacted angrily when news broke on Tuesday that Goetze will join Bayern on July 1 after actioning a release clause in his contract. An Internet campaign had threatened a hostile response during the Real match.
"I wasn't sure, but I hoped the fans would respect him and that's what happened. They were great," said 45-year-old Klopp.

Mourinho's team now face an uphill battle at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu in Tuesday's return leg, but with Real chasing a tenth European title, the 50-year-old self-styled 'Special One' has promised they will put up a fight.

"I have learnt that anything can happen in football, it will be tough next week, but nothing is impossible and my footballers will try to show that next Tuesday," said Mourinho.

Cristiano Ronaldo (seen in the image) did tap in an easy goal in the first half but Real were nowhere near the class of Borussia in the second as the home side took full toll.

Madrid players tried hard to stop but the Polish striker was in prime form on the day.

The fans were in delirium as is the atmosphere always in Dortmund and it spurred on the players to perform even better.

With Dortmund fans in delirium, Lewandowski claimed his fourth of the night when Reus was fouled in the area by Xabi Alonso, after Goetze's through-ball, and there was only one candidate when Kuipers pointed to the penalty spot on 66 minutes.

Mourinho tried to breathe some life into his side with two changes as Karim Benzema came on for Higuain and Angel Di Maria took over from Luka Modric in the central midfield position.
But only Lopez's excellent diving save denied Lewandowski his fifth moments later. Borussia won comfortably in the end.
