London Olympics: A grand Opening Ceremony

The London Olympics Opening Ceremony was every bit as grand and spectacular as it was billed to be. A look at the event that had the world in complete awe. Queen Elizabeth arrived right on schedule and was greeted by a loud cheer from all parts of the Olympic Stadium. (AFP and AP images)

The Union Jack was unfurled with the arrival of the Royal family and a sky dive from a helicopter by Daniel Craig.

The history of Britain was potrayed in the ceremony to begin with. From the feudal time to the Industrial Revolution, it was all included in the Danny Boyle directed event.

The Olympic Rings were spectacularly displayed, over the stadium.

There was also the performance from children and nurses from the National Health Service which was established the last time the Olympics came to London - 1948.

To many, some sections of the ceremony resembled a scene straight out of a fantasy movie. Such was the beauty and order of the events.

Speaking of fantasy, fictional character Mary Poppins was also part of the entire show.

There also was the fly-past over the London skies which left the crowd cheering and wanting an encore.

It was a proud moment for London Mayor Boris Johnson who is seen here with his wife.

The London Orchestra Symphony, with a performance from none other than Mr Bean, also was part of the entire program.
