CLT20: Delhi Daredevils romp home against Kolkata Knight Riders

It was a clinical display by the Delhi boys as they beat a hapless Kolkata Knight Riders team in a key clash. It was Unmukt Chand in batting and the whole team while fielding for the Daredevils as Knights were beaten badly.

  • It could not have been easier and sweeter for the Delhi Daredevils against the current IPL champions, Kolkata Knight Riders, as they raced home to a fine victory in the first match for the teams and second overall in the Champions League T20 2012. (All AFP Photos)
  • Delhi Daredevils started on a positive note with skipper Mahela Jayawardena and Virender Sehwag. They added 36 for the first wicket before Mahela was cleaned up by the wily West Indian, Sunil Narine.
  • Virender Sehwag could not impress yet again as he gave away a good start and got out to young Pradeep Sangwan for 22.
  • Kevin Pietersen too made a return to the cricket field after a short hiatus and his commentary stint, but could not score much. When he got out for 14, Delhi were in a spot of bother at 64/3.
  • It was an under-19 star who came to Delhi's rescue as Unmukt Chand, whose batting style matches Robin Uthappa, scored 40 off 27 balls to lead Daredevils' charge. He was joined by Ross Taylor and both wrecked havoc on Kolkata bowlers.
  • Sunil Narine was again the chief destructor as his 3/21 took some sting of the Daredevils' charge and in the end restricted them to 160/8.
  • The Delhi Daredevils did not begin well and then just could not get up from there. Gautam Gambhir and Brendon McCullum were dismissed for a duck by Pathan and Morkel respectively while Jacques Kallis was retired hurt after being hit by Morkel without troubling the scorers.
  • Even Yusuf Pathan could not manage to showcase his skills as he was dismissed, albeit a bit unluckily off Umesh Yadav when he dragged one on and could not retrieve it with his swipe of the bat.
  • Rajat Bhatia and Manoj Tiwary got together for a while but could not do anything to stop the rampaging Delhi team. Bhatia was hit in his midriff too and like him, Kolkata were literally down and out.
