  • The Jamaican has scored just 60 from his two innings in the Champions Trophy. Considering that this number has placed him 21st in the list of top-scorers shows that he has been unusually mute in the series so far.
  • Of course, two innings may not be indicative of the talent that this opener has but it is also clear that despite his barrage of runs in India, the batsman has been unable to either negotiate the ODI format, England or both.
  • Against Pakistan in West Indies' opening match, he scored a patient 39 off 47 deliveries. Just when it looked like he has set-up a foundation for himself and his side, Gayle was bowled by Saeed Ajmal.
  • Even against India, he got off to a good start with a couple of boundaries. It was Bhuvneshwar Kumar's rising delivery though that took a huge chunk of his bat en route to Ashwin in the slips.
  • To blame Gayle though for West Indies' unimpressive showing with the bat would be unsufficient. He after all, is the second-highest scorer for his side. Only Johnson Charles has scored more than him in the two matches played.
