Rohtak's child crusaders moved to orphanage

Rohtak:

For the last three years, two little kids in Haryana's Rohtak have lived without their parents, their mother committed suicide after being gang-raped, their father tried to commit suicide too but when he survived, he was arrested for their mother's murder.

After a street-side campaign, the children have achieved some success, the alleged rapist is arrested but for some reason, they've been put in an orphanage.

Alka was gang-raped three years ago, the accused were never arrested, protesting the injustice the couple drank poison. Alka died and her husband Sunil survived and was then strangely enough arrested for planning her murder.

For the last one month the two children, eight-year-old Nishita and her brother seven-year-old Himanshu lived on a pavement outside the Rohtak court.

Their campaign: To free their father Sunil Singh who they say has been wrongly accused of murdering their mother.

NDTV: What are you here for?
Nishita: To get my father.

For one month no one gave them a second glance, not one policeman or anyone from the district administration bothered to do anything for them.

Today suddenly, after their protest became public on national television the Rohtak administration decided to remove them for their own safety.

"Kids were not safe on the street and so they were removed and there was no ill treatment of either the grandparents or the children. They have been under discussion with the grandparents for over a month to remove kids from the road, the Red Cross Society has given through the admin Rs 2.5 lacs each for the two children for the education," said PC Meena, DC, Rohtak.

But Nishita and Himashu's family claims otherwise, they say the kids were forcibly removed.

Sheila, sister of Sunil claims police harassed them and removed the children from the spot.

The administration is now also trying to fast track the case and on Thursday the Haryana police arrested the man accused of raping their mother.

Himanshu and Nishita are currently in a orphanage in Sonepat.

The trauma is still not over for little Himanshu and Nitisha. They have been kept in an orphanage and will not be returned till their families signs and undertaking which says that they will not be exposed to what the administration calls harmful environment.

Far away their father is desperate for any news of his children.
