Murder of 32-Year-Old in Lucknow: Forensic Report Confirms Rape

Murder of 32-Year-Old in Lucknow: Forensic Report Confirms Rape

The naked, badly-mutilated body of the 32-year-old woman was found on the outskirts of Lucknow last Thursday.

Lucknow: A 32-year-old woman in Lucknow was not only murdered but also raped, forensic lab reports confirmed today.

The naked and mutilated body of the woman, a mother of two, was spotted by a watchman near a primary school in Mohanlalganj on the outskirts of the city last week, following which the Uttar Pradesh police arrested a security guard.

The main accused, Ram Sevak Yadav, had lured the victim who stayed in an apartment close to the under-construction building where he was employed, the police said.

"The woman was looking for an apartment. On July 16, Yadav called the woman to Mohanlalganj where he assaulted her in the private parts and the woman died because of excessive bleeding," Sutapa Sanyal, ADG, women's cell said, adding that the accused has a criminal history.

It was also established that the crime was a one-man operation.

The postmortem report said that the woman had died due to hemorrhage caused by multiple injuries - 12 including on her private parts. However, the report did not confirm rape, and yet the nature of the injuries sustained qualifies as rape under a tough new law which was framed last year following the brutal gang-rape of a student on a moving bus in Delhi in 2012. She died later.

Taking a strong view of the crime, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav last week directed officials to solve the case at the earliest. "CM also instructs DGP to suspend all those police personnel present in the disturbing pic of #Lucknowrape victim for the lack of courtesy (sic)," a tweet from the Chief Minister's office had said.

Six policemen were also suspended over an alleged delay in action in the case.

Police say the 32-year-old used to work as a lab assistant in a prestigious hospital in the city. Her husband died three years ago after a prolonged illness.
