Andhra woman's death: A mother's cry

Hyderabad:

The mother of the young woman in Andhra Pradesh who was kicked and punched and pulled by the hair by a mob of women in full public view, ultimately leading to her death, says there is no justice and no sense of shame.

Radha's mother Kanakavva said that no shame was left in people who simply watched as her daughter was being brutally attacked, and even filmed the action on television cameras and cellphones. NDTV has sourced the footage from local sources.

"She was brutally beaten and died such a miserable death. You are shooting what I am saying. But can you get me justice? Even the police is not doing justice. Where should I go for justice?," said Kanakavva.

Radha died in a hospital on Monday. Radha was assaulted because she allegedly had illicit relations with a married man, whose wife was among the women who vented their ire on Radha.

"They should be punished severely just the way my daughter was killed. Only then I will be satisfied. Because tomorrow another person may also suffer my daughter's fate," said Kanakavva.

That local cameras captured the action and people looked on without intervening has broken this mother's heart.

"You all have sisters and mothers. She was killed in such a horrible manner. Are you not ashamed?," she said.

The mother blames Radha's alleged paramour and his family for her death.

The brutal assault on Radha by a mob in full public view has raised several uncomfortable questions for locals, the media and a society where people have stopped reacting as human beings and instead have become mere spectators.
