Pregnant woman has swine flu in Coimbatore

Coimbatore: After nearly three months, a new case of A(H1NI) influenza has been reported in Coimbatore, when an eight-month old pregnant woman tested positive.

According to health department sources, the 29-year-old woman, working in a Multi-national Company in Bangalore was being treated in an isolation ward at a private hospital here.

The woman had come to see her parents in nearby Pollachi, where she had developed swine flu symptoms and admitted to hospital a couple of days ago, sources said.

Tests confirmed her swine flu status on April 30, and efforts were on to find whether her husband had similar symptoms, since her parents were not affected with the influenza as the woman reached their house on April 24.

Her condition was improving, after administering Tami Flu tablets, sources said.

The department is already on alert to prevent spread of any disease in view of the World Tamil Classical conference, scheduled from June 23 and would carry out fresh sensitisation drive to check spread of Swine flu, the sources said.
