US President Barack Obama offers new gun control steps

Washington: The Obama administration will announce two new steps on gun control, taking executive action on an issue that died in the Senate four months ago.

The administrative moves to be unveiled today add to a list of 23 that President Barack Obama had previously announced.

One policy will end a government practice that lets military weapons the government sells or donates to allies be reimported by private entities into the US.

The administration also is proposing to close a little-known loophole that lets guns be registered to corporations or trusts without background checks.

Vice President Joe Biden is set to announce the new actions at the White House when he presides over the ceremonial swearing-in for Todd Jones, Obama's new director at the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
