New Delhi: A day after Delhi minister Rakhi Birla's car was allegedly attacked in Mangolpuri in the western part of the city, police today claimed that the vehicle's windshield was accidentally damaged by a cricket ball. Her aides, though, are not convinced.

26-year-old Ms Birla had, on Sunday, lodged a complaint at Mangolpuri police station stating that someone from a crowd threw a stone at her car's windshield while she was returning after attending a function at the Santoshi Mata Mandir at 6.15 pm.

The windscreen of Ms Birla's car was hit by a cricket ball as a group of boys was playing cricket in the area, a police official said.

The incident reportedly happened in R-Block in Mangolpuri, which falls in the constituency of Ms Birla, the Women and Child Development Minister.

"When the incident happened, some of us, who were also inside the car, got down and asked the crowd which had gathered but nobody came forward. Now, it's said that it was a cricket ball. It all seems to be a conspiracy," the minister's aide said.

However, Ms Birla had, immediately after the incident, reiterated that she would not take any police protection and was "undeterred" by the attack.

In keeping with AAP's promise on austerity, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has refused to take any security, with all his six ministers also vowing to follow in their leader's footsteps.
