William "Neil" McCasland, 68, has been missing since February 27.

The wife of a retired US Air Force General, who went missing on February 27, has said she fears he may have intentionally disappeared. William “Neil” McCasland, 68, “planned not to be found”, his wife Susan Wilkerson told emergency responders shortly after he went missing from their home in New Mexico.

Wilkerson called 911 roughly three hours later and said, “My husband is missing. It's been about 3 hours, and I have some indication that he must have planned not to be found.”

She told dispatchers that her husband appeared to have taken “deliberate” steps before leaving, according to The New York Post. His phone was switched off and at home.

“He has a smartwatch. I don't know if that's with him or not,” she added.

Wilkerson also revealed that he changed his clothes and likely left on foot, adding that she was away at an appointment. All the vehicles they have were parked in the garage.

The FBI and local police have been searching for McCasland for weeks. So far, the investigation hasn't produced any clues.

Before retiring, McCasland led secret programs at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base that focused on space and defence technology. Rumour has it that the base contains debris connected to UFO sightings in Roswell, New Mexico.

Some experts say his disappearance is especially worrying because of the knowledge he holds about classified UFOs.

Journalist Ross Coulthart, known for covering UFOs and government secrecy, discussed McCasland's disappearance on his podcast Reality Check. He noted that McCasland “has some of the most sensitive secrets of the United States in his head” and is well aware of what the government might be keeping from the public regarding extraterrestrials.

Coulthart pointed out that the timing of McCasland's vanishing is “screechingly relevant”, coming just as the President is publicly signalling more transparency about UFO information. He further noted that McCasland wanted to share certain classified details with the public, which makes his sudden disappearance “a grave national security crisis” for the US.
