Turkey President Uses FaceTime App To Broadcast Messages

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan addressed the nation using FaceTime after a military coup in Turkey.

Amid an attempted military coup in Turkey, one key player's whereabouts are still murky: President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The president addressed the nation using FaceTime, describing the events as "an attempt at an uprising by a minority within our armed forces" and called on supporters to take to the streets.

Erdogan had spoken from "a secure location," a senior government official has said. That secure location remains a mystery.

The press office for the Turkish Embassy in Washington has since tweeted a series of statements, attributed to Erdogan including:

"Erdogan:The ones who attacked to the nation with the tanks, plane and helicopter which all belongs to the nation, will pay the highest price"

And a member of Turkey's ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) said on BBC that Erdogan is "in the country. He is monitoring."

Some unsubstantiated locations where Erdogan has been rumored to be at or headed to include the Turkish Riviera port town of Marmaris, Germany, Qatar and Istanbul.
