US to detonate underwater explosive in Puerto Rico

San Juan, Puerto Rico: The U.S. Navy is preparing to detonate a World War II explosive found off the coast of a popular beach in the Puerto Rican island of Culebra.

The U.S. Coast Guard said Saturday that it has established a safety zone at Flamenco beach for the underwater detonation.

The Coast Guard said no people or boats will be allowed within the zone from 9 a.m. to noon on Sunday.

Hundreds of tourists and Puerto Ricans visit the tiny island off Puerto Rico's east coast for Holy Week.

The U.S. Navy once used Culebra for military activity and later moved operations to the nearby island of Vieques.
