JFK Airport temporarily shut after plane skids off icy runway
New York: New York's busy John F Kennedy International Airport was temporarily shut down today after a plane skidded off an icy runway into snow, leading to the suspension of all domestic and international flights.

A NBC News report said a Delta flight from Toronto, with 35 passengers, had landed safely on the airport runway but slid into the snowbank while turning from the runway onto a taxiway.

No injuries were reported.

Flights were suspended for about two hours while workers salted and sanded the taxiways and runways, transportation officials said.

The airport was re-opened later.

The temperature at the airport was 31 degrees on Sunday morning, and light, freezing rain was falling, the National Weather Service reported.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident.
