An Indian-origin businessman in Britain, accused of arranging the murder of his wife during a honeymoon trip to Cape Town in 2010, is being extradited to South Africa Monday to face trial.
Shrien Dewani, 33, of Bristol city, has denied being involved in the murder of his Swedish wife, Anni, 28, in November 2010. He will reportedly fly from London's Heathrow Airport Monday night, Daily Mail reported Sunday.
His lawyers have fought against his extradition to South Africa, where he faces charges of murder and conspiracy.
They claim that Dewani is "too ill to be extradited" and will be a high suicide risk, as he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder and depression.
In Cape Town, Dewani's flight will be met by officers from the elite Hawks police unit. He will be then escorted to the city high court where he will be formally charged with murder. But he will first undergo tests at a psychiatric hospital in the city to confirm whether he is mentally fit to stand trial.
Anni was shot dead after the couple's taxi was apparently car-jacked in the Gugulethu township, 15 km from Cape Town.
The South African government has made it clear that it is keen to have Dewani declared fit to stand trial for arranging the killing. Three men jailed for the murder have claimed they were offered 1,400 pounds (about $2300) to carry out the crime.
