Flood in China; Over 300,000 evacuated
Beijing:

More than 300,000 people have been evacuated after torrential downpour, which continued for three days, flooded the banks of Rongjiang River, inundating several houses in southern China.

Around 150,000 people living in the low-lying areas near Kama reservoir have been moved to safety after the rain destroyed a 44-foot section of a dyke near the dam in Guangxi province, Xinhua news agency reported on Saturday.

In Jiangxi Province, two people were killed, three more were missing and more than 100,000 have been evacuated following the heaviest rain this summer, the report said quoting local flood control authorities.

The overflowing Rongjiang River has also forced 47,000 people of Rongshui County to leave their houses.

According to the County government, half of the 20 townships reported rainfall up to 200 mm from Wednesday to Friday.

Several houses in the rural areas were also destroyed in the flood, while farmlands were inundated and crops damaged. Earlier Xinhua had reported that 20 people had died and eight were missing in the flood.

With water levels of some rivers in Gaungxi touching the highest since 1998, China experienced worst flooding in over 100 years.
