London: It is well known that many Indians in the UK celebrate Diwali. The night sky on Diwali comes alive with firecrackers because of the festivities among the Indian community in London.

But who knew that Britain's Prime Minister David Cameron takes his Diwali so seriously.

He celebrated Diwali with his wife Samantha Cameron at a temple in London's borough of Neasden.

A new devotee for the Lord at London's iconic Neasden Temple, the Prime Minister offered prayers and fruits to the gods.

David Cameron was accompanied by his wife, who was dressed in a saree. Other British MPs too were present.

The Prime Minister spoke to NDTV about the festival. "Well, (wish you) a very happy Diwali. Britain is a multi-ethnic, multi-religious, multi-cultural country and we are very proud of the contribution that British Hindus make to our culture. Also, I think the message of Diwali is something we can all learn from."

He also spoke to NDTV about other issues like offering Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi an olive branch. "We talk to and engage with opposition parties in all countries - India included. If we think there are things that we've not got right, we can have free and frank discussions about those things"

The Prime Minister spent about over a hour at the temple - and even joked with devotees about helping them finish some of the sweets at the temple.

But what really won the crowds over was this chant by the Prime Minister with folded hands, "From the bottom of my heart, I'd like to wish everyone here - and all Hindus throughout Britain - a very Happy Diwali and a prosperous new year. Jai Swami Narayan."
