A former Indian Ambassador to the United States has told NDTV that the US-India trade deal, which cuts tariffs on Indian goods from 50% to 18%, removes a major competitive disadvantage for Indian exporters. Sectors such as gems and jewellery, textiles, and leather are expected to gain immediate relief, with reduced tariffs boosting labour-intensive exports. The diplomat said global CEOs remain bullish on India, even amid global uncertainty, and described the deal as a rare moment of optimism in a turbulent global economy.
