The Supreme Court has denied bail to Sharjeel Imam, Umar Khalid in the 2020 north-east Delhi riots case. The two former student leaders had challenged the Delhi High Court order denying them bail in a case under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) linked to the alleged larger conspiracy behind the riots. A bench comprising Justices Aravind Kumar and NV Anjaria, however, granted bail to five others: Gulfisha Fatima, Meeran Haider, Shifa Ur Rehman, Mohd Saleem Khan and Shadab Ahmed.
