Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth declared victory Wednesday after the U.S. and Iran reached a 2-week ceasefire, saying the U.S. "achieved every single objective" and claimed the "president of peace" Donald Trump "chose mercy" in agreeing to the ceasefire. "Together with our Israeli partners, America's military achieved every single objective on plan, on schedule, exactly as laid out from day one," Hegseth said at a Pentagon briefing Wednesday morning. "Iran's Navy is at the bottom of the sea," he said. "We own their skies." Iran, the United States and Israel agreed to a two-week ceasefire in an 11th-hour deal that headed off U.S. President Donald Trump's threat to unleash a bombing campaign to destroy Iranian civilization.
