Tarique Rahman's Swearing-In Marks Historic Break From Tradition In Bangladesh

Tarique Rahman is set to take oath as Prime Minister of Bangladesh in a ceremony that departs sharply from long-standing precedent. For the first time, the swearing-in will not be held at the Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban. Instead, President Mohammed Shahabuddin will administer the oath at the South Plaza of the Jatiya Sangsad. The ceremony will be attended by several foreign dignitaries, including Om Birla, representing India, alongside leaders and ministers from Bhutan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and the UK, among others. Rahman’s move to invite opposition leaders and even losing candidates to the ceremony signals a push for inclusivity after a prolonged period of political instability following the ouster of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2024. NDTV's Saurabh Gupta brings you the details.
