Several areas outside Chennai are turning dry without water as around four thousand tankers are on indefinite strike after the Madras High Court upheld a government order that restricts drawing of ground water in over-exploited areas. The Chennai Metro Water says residents in these unserved areas ought to buy water from it directly sending tankers which residents say is complicated and will have lots of logistic issues. Citing huge property tax they pay, many large communities have asked the state government to intervene.
