Madrid Housing Protest: Hundreds Camp Out Over Evictions, Rising Rents
Hundreds of housing activists have camped out at Madrid’s Puerta del Sol for a fourth day, demanding action over Spain’s housing crisis. The protests were sparked by the eviction of 87-year-old MarÃa del Carmen Abascal, who had lived in her apartment for more than seven decades. Protesters are demanding stronger tenant protections, anti-fraud measures and a ban on evictions when alternative housing is unavailable.
