The Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly unanimously passed a government resolution making the rendition of Tamil Thaai Vazhthu, the state song, mandatory at the beginning of official programmes across the state. Moving the resolution, Chief Minister Vijay described Tamil as more than a language, calling it the state’s identity, emotion and pride. He said Tamil Thaai Vazhthu should be treated as a symbol of Tamil Nadu’s cultural identity and not as a political issue.
