A brief power disruption at Madurai's Meenakshi Amman Temple during AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami's visit has triggered a political confrontation. Palaniswami criticised the TVK government, saying people cannot even worship peacefully. However, Electricity Minister CTR Nirmal Kumar denied a power cut, explaining that maintenance work and a generator switch-over ahead of scheduled VIP visits caused a temporary interruption lasting around 7–8 minutes.
