The post was later deleted, triggering confusion in global markets and a sharp drop in oil prices. The White House has now clarified that no such escort operation took place, while adding that the Trump administration is preparing contingency plans to keep the critical oil route open. Around 20% of the world’s oil supply passes through the Strait of Hormuz, making any disruption a major global concern.
