SIR Row Escalates: Congress Steps Up Attack, Supreme Court To Hear EC Plea
The political and legal battle over the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls is escalating. At a key Congress meeting, party chief Mallikarjun Kharge listed five demands, including greater access to electoral-roll data, while the party has called for the suspension of SIR and the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The Supreme Court has also agreed to hear next week a plea questioning the Election Commission's decision-making process and whether powers vested in the multi-member poll panel can be exercised unilaterally.
