The Congress finally has a new president, the first non-Gandhi to head it in 24 years. 80-year-old Mallikarjun Kharge won by a landslide against Shashi Tharoor, who didn't do too badly by polling over 1,000 votes. The change at the top comes at a critical time for the Congress, which has been struggling to remain relevant since the Modi wave of 2014. There are many challenges for Kharge, including whether he will have the independence to make his own decisions, unifying a badly divided party and finding ways of taking on the BJP's election machinery. Can the grand old man steer the sinking ship of the Grand Old Party?
