Our exploration of India's traditional sports, now experiencing a resurgence thanks to Usha, brings us to Telangana and the captivating realms of Karra Samu and Kathi Samu. Karra Samu, or stick fighting, is a traditional martial art from Andhra Pradesh that has spread throughout Telugu regions, deeply entrenched in the area's rich history. Dating back centuries, it originated as a form of self-defense against prevalent village thefts and to thwart robbers during travels. Replace the stick with a sword or Kathi, and you have Kathi Samu, an ancient skill purportedly mastered by the royal armies of the region.
