In his Independence Day address from the ramparts of the Red Fort, Prime Minister Narendra Modi outlined his vision for a self-reliant, ambitious and resilient India. He highlighted India’s progress in poverty reduction and economic growth, urged citizens to embrace ‘Vocal for Local’ and Atmanirbhar Bharat, and warned against the weaponisation of critical resources such as fuel and medicines. PM Modi also spoke about vigilance against what he described as “intellectual Naxals,” announced plans for a stronger civil defence network, asserted India’s readiness to face challenges across its borders, and laid out major ambitions in sports and youth development, including hosting the 2030 Commonwealth Games, bidding for the 2036 Olympics and providing free online coaching for youth.
