The troubles seem to be mounting for the Congress what with two of the states ruled by it facing major crises. As Assam witnesses one of the worst ethnic clashes ever, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is under fire for failing to check the spiralling violence, prompting even Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to intervene. In Maharashtra, meanwhile, the Congress is battling a political crisis. After being criticised by ally NCP, Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan is now being targeted by his party MLAs for slow decision-making.
