Chennai is witnessing a severe drinking water crisis as all reservoirs around the city have gone dry. Chennai's water board has cut piped water supply by 40%. Many areas are now being catered by water tankers, which residents claim have become irregular ever since elections ended. The people who are worst-affected by the crisis are those who live on the outskirts of the city. Residents now face a huge challenge as restrictions have been imposed on private tankers, which tap agricultural wells to supply water. Resident associations have formed a federation and are knocking at Tamil Nadu Chief Minister E Palaniswami's door.
