US, Denmark Reach Greenland Security Deal; Trump Claims ‘Permanent Control’
The United States and Denmark have reached an agreement on Greenland’s security, with Donald Trump saying the deal gives Washington “permanent control” over the territory’s security and other needs. Trump described it as an “infinite life” agreement and said Russia, China and other US adversaries would be blocked from establishing military bases or a presence without US approval. Denmark and Greenland say the pact recognises Danish sovereignty and Greenlanders’ right to self-determination. The agreement is expected to be signed at the UN General Assembly next week, subject to parliamentary approval.
