"Serious illness of family members causes severe stress on financial circumstances of poor and economically weaker families, shaking the foundations of economic security," Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said in his Budget speech today. A new Health Protection Scheme will be launched, which will provide health cover upto Rs 1 lakh per family. He also proposes to start National Dialysis Services Programme to provide dialysis service in all district hospitals. The funds will be made available through a PPP mode under the National Health Mission.
