Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman says she will “tread cautiously” on changes to long-term capital gains (LTCG) tax, with preparations for the next Union Budget already underway. Responding to investor demands to remove capital gains tax and streamline taxation, she also pointed to securities transaction tax (STT) and debate over whether different asset classes should be taxed uniformly. Sitharaman said investors in India and abroad have raised these concerns, but made no commitment to any tax change.
