Philippines News | Rescue Operations Continue After Ferry Carrying 350+ People Sinks In Philippines

Rescue efforts are ongoing off Basilan in the southern Philippines, after a ferry carrying more than 350 people sank near Zamboanga on Monday, leaving at least 18 dead and dozens missing. Footage shows rescuers pulling ferry passengers aboard a rescue vessel off the coast of Zamboanga. Additional drone footage shows multiple rescue boats deployed in the area, searching the surrounding waters. The MV Trisha Kerstin 3 left Zamboanga City for Jolo Island late Sunday with 332 passengers and 27 crew, the Philippine Coast Guard said. About four hours later, it issued a distress call around 1:50 a.m. (17:50 GMT Sunday) before sinking in calm seas about one nautical mile off Baluk-baluk village in Basilan, where many survivors were brought ashore.
