'People Can't Speak For Themselves': Filmmaker Describes Iran Crisis

In a conversation with NDTV, BAFTA-winning Iranian-Scottish documentary filmmaker Parisa Urquhart described severe communication blackouts and growing fear among Iranians amid the ongoing crackdown. She said members of the Iranian diaspora have managed to receive only brief one-minute calls from family members in Iran, with return calls largely failing. Urquhart relayed unverified reports circulating among contacts of mass killings, bodies allegedly dumped in canals, and families being forced to pay to retrieve the bodies of those killed-claims that could not be independently confirmed. Calling the situation "shocking," she appealed for urgent international support, saying Iranian voices are being silenced even as civilians protest for democracy, human rights, and dignity.
