Mandya in Karnataka is witnessing a fascinating battle between the son of a chief minister and an independent candidate backed by many in the Kannada film industry. Nikhil Kumaraswamy, son of chief minister, H D Kumaraswamy says it was the party, not family ties, that got him the ticket. He is up against Sumalatha Ambareesh, wife of the late superstar Ambareesh who is supported by the BJP and current film stars. And she is also supported by many Congress workers, unhappy with Nikhil's selection as the Congress-JDS coalition candidate. This makes Mandya possibly the only place in India where BJP and Congress flags are being waved together to support the same candidate. Maya Sharma reports from the campaign trail.
