From June 1 to July 9, north-west India has received 35 per cent above-normal rainfall, according to India Meteorological Department Director General Mrutyunjay Mohapatra. He said north Indian states and cities such as Punjab, Himachal Pradesh, Delhi and Chandigarh saw extremely heavy rainfall over the weekend. There will be some relief from Monday, he said, adding the downpour led to a flood-like situation in low-lying areas and landslides.
