Raising many eyebrows, the Gujarat home minister Harsh Sanghavi on Friday announced that the people will not be fined for a week for violating traffic rules in the state. This triggered a barrage of criticism, not just from the people outside the state but also from the citizens of Gujarat.  This comes ahead of elections due by the end of the year, in which the BJP hopes to retain its decades of hold on the state.
