India's retail inflation surged to 7.79 per cent in April, largely driven by rising fuel and food prices, government data showed on Thursday. The consumer price-based inflation figure stayed well above Reserve Bank of India's (RBI's) upper tolerance limit for the fourth consecutive month. A trainload of Congress leaders and workers, led by Rahul Gandhi, departed today for Udaipur to take part in the three-day Chintan Shivir, where the all-important leadership issue and the party's roadmap for the coming days will be up for discussion. Elections to 52 Rajya Sabha seats spread across 15 states will take place on June 10, an Election Commission official has said. These elections will be crucial in terms of the Presidential elections due in July. Seven seats of nominated MPs are also vacant.
