Booths In Relief Camps, Micro Observers: How Violence-Hit Manipur Is Prepping For Polls

In Manipur, campaigning for the two Lok Sabha seats - Inner Manipur and Outer Manipur - was significantly subdued this time amid almost a year-long ethnic violence between the Meitei and the Kuki-Zomi communities. In an unprecedented move, political parties and its candidates did not hold any public meetings. Only Amit Shah addressed an election rally in Imphal on April 15. Ten candidates - six in Inner Manipur and four in Outer Manipur - are contesting the two Lok Sabha seats in the state. The main contest is expected between the BJP-Naga People's Front alliance and the INDIA bloc. Over 24,500 eligible voters, sheltered in relief camps due to the violence, will exercise their franchise at 94 special polling stations set up in the camps in 10 of the state's 16 districts.
