Nepal Finance Minister On "Environmental Debt": "A Crisis We Contributed Almost Nothing To"

"Why would a very poor country like Nepal (it's the poorest on the continent, other than the exceptional case of Afghanistan) be borrowing money to rebuild infrastructure? The dozens of bridges, hundreds of kilometers of roads, the mager hydropower plants that are all about to generate clean electricity, private houses, the public houses: why should we be borrowing to rebuild infrastructure that was damaged or destroyed by a crisis that we contributed almost nothing to? This is a conversation that we need to have," Nepal Finance Minister Dr Swarnim Wagle said. #NepalFloods #Nepal #SwarnimWagle #ClimateChange #ClimateFinance #ClimateCrisis #Infrastructure #CleanEnergy #Hydropower #NDTVWorldSummit2026 #NDTVWorld $MetaTags$1#NDTV Events2#NDTV World Summit 20264#Yasharth Rai5#Devendra Singh$MetaTags$
