The Mumbai Metro reduces traffic congestion in the city and supplements the overcrowded suburban rail network. It has been built in three phases over 15 years and is expected to be completed by October 2026. The Mumbai Metro is the sixth longest operational metro network in India with an operational length of 46.4 km. When completed, it will have 14 high-capacity metro rail lines and one metrolite line over 356 km with 24% of it underground and 286 stations.
