LPU Violence: Unverified Sexual Assault Claim Triggers Protests, Arson And Vandalism
Violence erupted at Lovely Professional University in Punjab after an unverified sexual-assault claim involving a student triggered protests. The unrest escalated into vandalism, arson, clashes with police and disruption of NH-44, while shops at the campus mall were also damaged and goods were allegedly looted. Police have registered a case and formed an SIT to investigate the underlying allegation, while the university has denied that the alleged assault took place.
